Purple Chanel 2.55 Reissue 227 Flap Handbag
The Chanel 2.55 Reissue, created by Karl Lagerfeld in 2005 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original 2.55 bag, faithfully reproduces the features designed by Coco Chanel in 1955.
Exterior features
- Aged calfskin leather: Reissues are most commonly made from aged or distressed calfskin, which gives the bag a soft, slightly creased, and vintage look.
- "Mademoiselle" lock: The rectangular turn-lock, named to honor Coco Chanel's unmarried status, is a signature feature of the Reissue. This differs from the interlocking "CC" logo clasp on the Classic Flap bag.
- All-metal chain strap: The strap is an all-metal bijoux chain, without any interwoven leather. Its design was inspired by the chains the caretakers at the orphanage where Chanel grew up used to carry their keys.
- Quilted pattern: The signature diamond-quilted pattern was inspired by the jackets worn by jockeys, a sport Chanel loved.
- Rear slip pocket: The exterior features a slip pocket on the back, also known as the "Mona Lisa pocket".
